Typical safari days
You are privately guided in an open-sided game viewing vehicle (the vehicle pictured), your game drives are exceptional in that your guide is able to interpret the behaviour, the ecology and relationships of and between all the animals, vegetation and landscapes you see during your game drives with him. His accreditations and qualifications as a field guide and trails ranger are exemplary, and coupled with 15 years of experience in the Kruger make your time with him a once-in-a-lifetime experience.

Big 5 sightings of elephant, rhino, lion, leopard and African buffalo are just as rewarding as all the aspects of being in the African bush in among the 148 mammal species, over 500 birds, 350 tree species and a huge diversity of landscapes and eco-zones. It's our ability to interpret this amazing diversity of wildlife, of cultural and historical influences, as well as unravel the ecological secrets and mysteries that make Africa so special that makes us leaders in private guiding in the Kruger National Park.

Kruger nights are wonderful - the southern skies play host to the nocturnal calls of hyenas, jackals, baboons and lion all while you enjoy once-in-a-lifetime moments in the African bush.

Two game drives every day - no schedule for the length or diversity of the game drives except your needs, and what the bush delivers.

On one your nights with us we organise a nocturnal drive (night drive) with spotlights - in order to get out in the dark which presents wonderful opportunities to look at the glorious star-filled skies, and some of the more secretive animals like wild cats, porcupines, owls, African civet and other nocturnal animals.

Accommodation
Bearded Heron Safaris is famous for using the very best accommodation types in the Kruger. Our understanding of the Kruger's variety of accommodation types, rest camps and lodges are beyond comparison but more importantly - when we host a full service safari, we make sure that our hospitality style and ethic is matched by the facilities. We offer privately guided safari itineraries and to ensure a wonderful ambience and true safari ethos.

You will have your own private accommodation in the form of a one, two or three bedroom, fully serviced en-suite cottage on this safari. The other members of the group all have their own private accommodation.

Meals and refreshments
Neil is accompanied by his hospitality chef on safari that spends his day preparing your meals, ensuring that all beverages, table settings and mood fires are lit, cooked and ready to present the other important part of a successful safari - your meals. Together they make an exceptional team providing guiding and hospitality service that is unmatched in South Africa.

Meals include an early morning breakfast (before your first game drive)
A full breakfast (after your first game drive)
A light lunch
Dinner - mostly cooked outdoors, over an open fire

(All local beer, South African wine, bottled water and fresh juice is provided and included in your quoted price on this full service itinerary)

Nothing is too much trouble on a Bearded Heron Safari - and we start preparing menus long before your trip is set to start. We carefully plan all meals to ensure that you get to eat the type of food that you enjoy.

Game viewing is almost always dependent on what's happening in the bush.
A pride of lions on a kill, or watching buffalo interaction, or elephants, even simply exploring the diversity of this great wildlife reserve, means that we are well aware that mealtimes must be dynamic. So we always keep snacks and cold drinks on board in the vehicle, just in case.

Travel day
Guests that take up our FREE travel and overnight offer will arrive at Kruger at about 3pm.
Guest who have chosen their own travel arrangements to Nelspruit should fly in or arrive in Nelspruit at approx. midday; this allows us time to plan your FREE road transfer to the Kruger comfortably, with minimum fuss on the first day.

You meet the team at the first lodge (restcamp), and depending on your time of arrival - they will settle you in to your accommodation, provide a light lunch or pre-game drive snacks, and then onto our open-sided safari game viewing vehicle for your first memorable game drive, and introduction to the world-famous Kruger National Park.

Departure day
We always try and fit in an early morning game drive, and of course, a hearty breakfast before departure. Departure days depend on your transfer out of Nelspruit, however, we will always plan the best possible morning for you.
