South Africa’s Biodiversity

South Africa is the third most biologically diverse country in the world!

Our ‘natural health’ through these environmental assets depends largely on your input and visitation – eco tourism offers a very real opportunity for many South Africans to sustain their own development and welfare. For this I thank you, your continued support and business does make a difference to both the conservation and the sustainability of South Africa as a viable and absolutely beautiful destination.

I’ve just returned from an ‘across the country’ safari – Two ecologists from the USA were my guests on safari, and wow – did we get to see a bit of the country – 6 500Km stretching across South Africa’s most unique and beautiful northern borders, and then down to Cape Town.

Besides the vastness of the country, our sightings of birds and animals topped the safari list – Large mammals topped the 35 species mark, including; Lion, elephant, rhino, buffalo and caracal.

Our accommodation was as always, fantastic and private, topped by a two- night stay on the South African parks House Boat on the West Coast National Park. Fresh crayfish braai’s were the order of the day, while the Sand Sharks and other underworld residents swam past. The flamingos and Egyptian geese cackled their morning greetings as the sun rose up from the Karoo to wash the lagoon in an orange-red glow.

The Kruger was as fantastic as it always is – close encounters with elephant, herds of over 500 buffalo and lions on a buffalo kill made up the game drives and we always had plenty of stories to tell at the fire side in the evenings.

I’ve included a few pictures of some of this adventure – looking forward to hearing from you in the future.

I look forward to participating in a safari like this again soon, but in the meantime, I’m back at home (the Kruger) during the next couple of months. Next up are Carole, friends and family and then Gail and Gary from Australia.

Keep in touch – it really makes my day to hear from all of you.

Kind Regards
